Canine canniness

kevinpocock.substack.com

Today I’m observing the dog one, the boy who is our shadow.

Canine canniness

“Get down”, I tell him, thinking I myself should reach a bit more.

“Wait”, I ask him, but is there time to waste?

“Stay” is a recent addition.

He’s getting there.

The irony.

He watches us about the house, setting his station when he sees us stay put.

His little face shifts expression slightly, and occasionally he talks.

In whines, in woofs, with his paw (asking nicely).

I ask him to move when he’s scamping in the kitchen for crumbs.

I’m trying to make my lunch.

We’re both hungry.

He will settle when those near him do.

If he is needed he will not sleep unless his body forces him to.

His demands are fair enough too. He wants a walk? Well, it is lovely out.

He has all he needs, and he is happy…if we are happy, and we have what we need.

He reminds me often.

Be more dog.
